A note of caution ... some sites, which are designed to resemble Tourist Guides, are actually by property owners who only advertise their own property.   www.vejer.com   is one such. Be aware of its bias ... but check it anyway. It has some good information on the area.

Please note: the following suggestions are by no means exhaustive. Vejer and the surrounding area has many excellent hotels, hostals, apartments and restaurants.

On the road from Benelup to Medina, the Cortijo is about 25 km north of Vejer but still with easy access to the coast. The rooms are very stylish and comfortable. In my opinion, the restaurant is one of the best on Costa de la Luz. Speak to Enrique. Tell him that pedrito from CASA SIN NOMBRE has recommended the 'Callos'.
 		  
     
Try the food at La Chozita - right on Plaza España - opposite the Califa. Run by our good friends Fred (crazy French chef) and Nadia. Certainly the most interesting menu in Vejer and the food is superb. I eat there often and always kiss Nadia to say thank you (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it). Spicy means spicy.
  		  
   

 
Apartment La Marina (a pretty studio sleeping 2)  is on the outskirts of Conil. It has a large private terrace and parking. Email  Anne or  Andrés on    elmueblerustico@telefonica.net    (or phone  0034 657 370 075) .  They both speak English, Spanish and German ... sometimes at the same time. Tell them the man whose shorts caught fire recommended them.

 Right on picturesque, bustling Plaza España in Vejer - a lovely old building. Ancient steps wind down to one of the prettiest restaurants I've ever seen with a beautiful garden. The food is mainly Moroccan - good, but not nearly spicy enough for my taste.
  		  
     
NB. As with all accommodation on or near Plaza España, check carefully which room you have. During high season and with frequent 'fiesta' events, the atmosphere is lively and often noisy.

 Advertised as a 'boutique hotel'. A curious web site - obviously a 'boutique web site'. Vejer old town.
  		  
     
If you like tapas, Vejer is the place for you. Virtually all bars serve very good tapas. I'll single out 'Meson Pepe Julian' if only for the quality of his Manchego cheese and his personally selected Jamon. Pepe and his beautiful wife Consuelo are very kind and friendly hosts. The Meson is right opposite the arch into the little market place.
